The splash deck is where wet feet land. It needs to be safe first. After that it can have a bit of personality.
Mix a simple paved field with a feature strip. Leave a corner for a day bed or a small outdoor table. Add a pot of something hardy, not a plant that sheds into the water. Shade is character too. An umbrella, a pergola or the shadow of the house in the afternoon will get used more than a decorative water feature you never turn on.
